This study aims to analyze the practice of Islamic family law in relation to gender relations, legal consciousness, and social negotiation in Karangasih Village, North Cikarang District, Bekasi Regency. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, limited observation, and documentation involving 24 informants, including women with experiences of family conflict or divorce, married couples, religious leaders, community leaders, village officials, officers from the Office of Religious Affairs, and actors familiar with family dispute resolution practices. The data were analyzed thematically through data reduction, categorization, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that Islamic family law practices are not only shaped by Islamic jurisprudence and state law, but also by custom, family experience, religious authority, social pressure, and household economic conditions. Gender relations influence women’s bargaining position in claiming rights related to maintenance, divorce, marital property, and child custody. Legal consciousness grows through conflict experiences and interaction with formal and informal institutions. This study contributes to socio-legal scholarship on Islamic family law by positioning law as a social practice that is interpreted and negotiated within family and community relations. The findings imply the need to strengthen family legal literacy, gender-sensitive mediation, and accessible village-based consultation services that protect vulnerable parties.
