Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of mosque-based education in strengthening Islamic literacy and community empowerment at Al-Falah Mosque, Sukarame Subdistrict, Sukarame District, Bandar Lampung City. This issue is important because mosques function not only as places of worship but also as spaces for education, moral development, and social solidarity. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and documentation from September 2025 to November 2025. The research involved 18 informants, including mosque administrators, male and female Islamic teachers, TPQ or majelis taklim managers, congregation members, parents of students, and community leaders. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model combined with thematic analysis. The findings show that mosque-based education strengthens practical and contextual Islamic literacy, creates an intergenerational learning space, reinforces social relations among congregants, and encourages empowerment through religious value-based social activities. However, its implementation still faces several challenges, including unstable participation, limited teaching cadres, low youth involvement, and inadequate program documentation. This study concludes that the mosque can serve as a community-based educational center that connects religious knowledge, social interaction, and community empowerment.
